Bio

Marilyn has pursued painting her entire adult life with a B.A. from U.C.L.A. and a Masters in Painting from Virginia Commonwealth University. In 2009 she was awarded “Member in Excellence” with the South Carolina  Water Media Society.  In 2011 she was awarded “Best in Show” from the International Society of Acrylic Painters (ISAP) and became a signature member.

She has had numerous solo exhibits, beginning with her first in 1980, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where her husband was a diplomat for the United States.  She has lived in several countries overseas because of her husband’s career and currently lives in Petaluma, California.

Marilyn is primarily an abstract painter, and agrees with Kandinsky’s philosophy that there are no “musts” in art.  She moves freely from Abstraction to Realism, always searching for the best way to express an idea. Her themes are light and color, taking inspiration from nature, the spiritual, and exploration of media.

Marilyn begins a watercolor by pouring warm colors across the paper.
